Public Notice
ENCROACHMENT OF ELECTRICITY INFRASTRUCTURE IS UNLAWFUL
K-Electric’s infrastructure including overhead and underground cables, substations, pole-mounted transformers (PMTs), electricity poles, and towers, extra-high-voltage Overhead and Underground transmission lines and meters are regularly subject to infringement, damage, and/or encroachment by various parties including TV/internet cable operators, real estate developers, utility providers, autonomous/semi-autonomous public and private sector construction companies, government contractors as well as individuals and inhabitants residing under or near transmission/distribution lines in violation of the utility’s Right of Way.
Such encroachments damage KE’s infrastructure and jeopardize the integrity of the electricity system, affecting service provision and bypassing the electrical safety mechanisms which create public safety hazards. This results in electrocutions and at times also causes tragic loss of life.
KE has repeatedly highlighted these hazards to all stakeholders and the public at large through multiple notices, time and again. Vide this notice, KE reiterates the message and notifies all concerned entities and individuals to remove any construction, encroachments, all cables, individual street lights illegally connected with KE systems with dangerous switches, and/or any other equipment that encroaches on any KE installation,
Violating promulgated safe distance requirements, disrupting the supply of electricity, or cause any safety incident/injury. Because of the foregoing facts, the power utility may not be held responsible for any loss or damages arising from such encroachments. Further, the power utility reserves the right to take legal action under the Pakistan Penal Code and other relevant laws which include strict punishments and fines.
In the interest of public safety, KE also reserves the right to suspend/disconnect the electricity supply if concerned parties fail to mitigate the safety hazard(s) arising from the encroachment of the KE infrastructure or network.
Any individual or entity desiring to carry out any work which is likely to affect KE’s infrastructure is required to seek KE’s written consent one month in advance. In this regard, please submit your request to permissions@ke.com.pk for consideration, accordingly.
KE strongly condemns all such acts which create inconvenience or endanger its consumers/public at large and KE will initiate legal proceedings without exception against anyone not following the above-mentioned process, unlawfully infringing KE infrastructure, or acting in abrogation of the law. In addition to initiating any criminal proceedings, KE also reserves the right to take further action as per applicable prevailing laws in case of any damage(s) caused to the KE network in breach of this notice.
